THE SCIENCE OF SUCCESS
SIDNEY MAKES THE GRADE INSIDE THE LAB AND OUT
I’m Sidney Eichelberger, an EdOp scholar enthusiastically entering my senior year at Southern Methodist University. I am working toward a double major in Biochemistry and Philosophy with a minor in Mathematics. I will be spending the fall semester interning with NASA at the Langley Research Center and plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in Bioengineering after I graduate. I’m currently working in the Garcia-Bosch Research Lab where I have been for over two years. I’m proud to have been published in a paper as a result of my work in the chemistry lab. My group’s project is focused on the H-bonding interactions of biologically-inspired metal complexes bearing tetradentate ligands. Thanks to an EdOp Cathy Doyle Travel Award, I was able to study culture, art, dance, and music in Bali for a whole month last summer! My three years as an undergraduate have been crazy and stressful but also amazing and unforgettable. I look forward to my last year at SMU and to whatever comes next. Pony Up!
BOBBIE TAKES SPELMAN COLLEGE BY STORM
I’m Bobbie Wade, a 2016 EdOp scholar and a rising senior and economics major at Spelman College. This summer I served as a 2019 wealth and investment management intern at Wells Fargo Advisors in St. Louis, Missouri. While there, I toured the famous Arch and visited the many free museums in Forest Park. In the 2019-20 school year I will serve as the co-chair of Spelman’s Economics Club. I also will be conducting research for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta during the fall semester. In my free time I enjoy weekend travel and catching up on my favorite shows! EdOp helped with my love of travel by awarding me a Cathy Doyle Travel Award, allowing me to spend the summer of 2018 in Spain. Barcelona was an amazing experience. I visited the La Sagrada Familia built by the famous architect Gaudi. I climbed Montserrat, took a Catalan class, and even learned how to make Catalan cream! Overall, I really enjoyed my experience.
A WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES
ISAEL AIMS AT A DEGREE IN GLOBAL & REGIONAL STUDIES
I’m Isael Cruz, an EdOp scholar pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts. I am serving as a resident assistant for Coleman Dormitory this year and am feeling well prepared for the intriguing classes I will be taking. I am thinking of concentrating in global and regional studies or marketing, but I still have time to decide.
I am very grateful for EdOp’s continued support along with the Rees-Jones travel funds that enable me to pay for transportation home at the end of the semester. I am looking forward to a productive and great year!
