A REMARKABLE STORY
JOVAHANA ASPIRES TO BE A LEADER IN HER COMMUNITY
I'm Jovahana, a senior at St. Edward’s University, who is majoring in Political Science and English Writing and Rhetoric. I am an honors student who has served as a resident assistant for St. Edward’s Honors Living and Learning Community and as president of the Latino Student Leaders Organization. I have also pursued my passion for public service through internships with the the offices of Texas State Representative Eddie Rodriguez and Austin Mayor Steve Adler and with Annie’s List, the League of Women Voters of Texas, and the Center for Public Policy Priorities. I was the honored recipient of an EdOp Cathy Doyle Travel Award, spending last summer in Washington, D.C., as an intern in the Environmental Protection Agency.
I am currently an intern with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and I have recently accepted a position as Analyst in the Global Compliance Divisian at Goldman Sachs post-graduation! I plan to attend law school in the future and hope to eventually to return to Oak Cliff to invest in the community where I grew up. I continue to pave the way for future leadership, advocate for underrepresented communities, and champion for equity and access. I'm eternally grateful for the opportunities and support that EdOp has provided and is determined to make a difference in the lives of others.
THE SCIENCE OF SUCCESS
SIDNEY MAKES THE GRADE INSIDE THE LAB AND OUT
My name is Sidney Eichelberger, I am an EdOp student entering my Junior year at Southern Methodist University. I am working towards a B.S. in Biochemistry with minors in Philosophy, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering, and my immediate goal is to attend graduate school for Materials Science. When I'm not studying, I am working in the Garcia-Bosche Research Lab. My group's project is focused on studying the H-bonding interactions of biologically-inspired metal complexes bearing tetradentate ligands. I am also a Resident Assistant for the on-campus community, planning events and attending a lot of meetings! My first two years as an undergraduate have been amazing and I look forward to the next two. Pony Up!
BOBBIE TAKES SPELMAN COLLEGE BY STORM
I'm Bobbie Wade: EdOp scholar. I'm a junior at historical Spelman College majoring in Economics with a minor in Management and Organization. Last summer I worked with the General Counsel of the Dallas Housing Authority. I serve as the social media chair for the Atlanta University Center Consortium Dual-Degree Engineering Program, as campus liaison for the AUC Texas Club, and as a member of the Spelman-Morehouse Pre-Law Society. I also will be serving as the Junior Class Council secretary for the 2018-2019 school year. In 2018 I was a recipient of an EdOp Cathy Doyle Travel Award and got to spend a summer in Spain! Barcelona was an amazing experience. I visited the La Sagrada Familia built by the famous architect Gaudi. I climbed Montserrat and visited a historic vineyard in the city. My peers and I took a Catalan class and learn have to make Catalan cream. So, overall, I really enjoyed my experience.
